A BRIEF HISTORY ON
ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS

The first-known reference to a game resembling Rock, Paper, Scissors is in the book Wuzazu from around 1600. It mentions Shoushiling, suggesting it originated in China between 206 BC and 220 AD.
Making its way to Japan, Shoushiling became known as Jon Ken Pon, or Janken. In fact, there are many Japanese references to fist games in which A beats B, B beats C, and C beats A. One of the earliest saw players make their hands into ‘slugs, frogs and snakes’! Surprisingly, though, the game only took off in the West as Rock, Paper, Scissors in the 1920s.
So… From Ancient China to Britain’s playgrounds, we know its history. But what of the future? That’s now in YOUR hands! To help make Tri-Hand the newest and most versatile card game in the world today.
